A Hidden Gem Near Daytona Beach

Our Visit to the Marine Science Center in Ponce Inlet, Florida

If you are planning a trip to the Daytona Beach area and looking for something fun, educational, affordable, and family friendly, then the Marine Science Center absolutely deserves a spot on your list!

Located just a short drive south of Daytona Beach in beautiful Ponce Inlet, this little hidden gem is incredibly easy to find and makes for the perfect stop during a beach day or lighthouse adventure. The center is tucked right near the famous Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse, making it easy to combine both attractions into one amazing afternoon.

From the moment we walked in, we could tell this place was special.

The Marine Science Center focuses on rescuing and rehabilitating injured sea turtles and seabirds along Florida’s coast. One of the most inspiring parts of our visit was learning about the sea turtle rescue program. They currently care for several rescued sea turtles, helping nurse them back to health before releasing them back into the ocean. One of the coolest exhibits was the wall showcasing recently released turtles and their personal rescue stories. It really gives you a deeper appreciation for the conservation work happening here every single day.

Watching the sea turtles up close was definitely one of our favorite parts of the experience. Each turtle had its own story, and it was amazing seeing the care and dedication that goes into helping these beautiful animals recover.

Another huge highlight was the stingray area. We loved watching the little sea rays glide through the water, and if you time your visit right, you can even watch the staff feed the stingrays! It was such a fun and relaxing experience that both kids and adults can enjoy.

The entire center was very clean, easy to walk through, and packed with educational exhibits about Florida marine life, conservation, and local ecosystems. Even though it is not a massive attraction, we spent about an hour and a half exploring everything comfortably without ever feeling rushed.

One thing that really surprised us was how affordable it was. Admission was only around $8 per person, making this one of the best budget friendly activities near Daytona Beach. For the amount of education, animal encounters, and conservation work happening here, it honestly feels like a steal.

Before leaving, we spent some time exploring the gift shop, which was fantastic. There were so many unique items, souvenirs, marine themed gifts, and educational products available. Purchasing something from the shop is also a great way to help support this small but important facility and the rescue work they do for marine animals.

The Marine Science Center may not be the biggest attraction in Florida, but sometimes the smaller places leave the biggest impression. Between the rescued sea turtles, stingray feedings, educational exhibits, and friendly atmosphere, this was one of the most enjoyable stops we have made near Daytona Beach.

If you are visiting Daytona Beach, New Smyrna Beach, or Ponce Inlet, we highly recommend making time for this incredible little place. It is affordable, easy to find, educational, and filled with heart.

This is definitely one of those hidden Florida spots we would visit again!
